Winner's determined
Before the final the swedish boys skipped by Rasmus Wranå was the only undefeated boys team. That didn't change as they beat Team Gstaad 9-2. In the match for 3rd place the Russians beat St. Gallen 5-3. In the Girl's Event the final was between the swiss Team Kägi Fret and norwegian Team Davanger, who went through the round robin undefeated. The swiss girls had won the page 2-3 match a few hours earlier and maybe they took advantage of their momentum in the beginning of the final. In the break after the 4th end they were leading the Norwegians by 6-2. But it looked like two different teams entering the ice for the second half. Three ends later the norwegian girls had turned the game around completely and were now leading by 9-6. In the last end the Norwegians took out the swiss chances of salvaging anything. The game ended 9-7 and the second scandinavian 1st place was reality.

Happy winners!

Semifinals
The top teams in the Boy's Groups crossed over in the semifinals. Group A winners St. Gallen met Group B runner ups Gstaad. Gstaad qualified from their group with only one victory and a good Team Draw Shot. St. Gallen won 3 games in Group A and also qualified because of good draws. Gstaad probably became the first team in GDJO's history to qualify for a final with only 2 victories in the weekend so far. They beat their countrymen from St. Gallen by 6-2. In the other semifinal Team Wranå beat the Russians in a thrilling encounter. In the 8th end the russian skip tried a draw to the 8-end which would force an extra end, but a guard came in the way and the Swedes stole two 2 points more to make it a 6-3 win.
In the Girl's Event the second and third placed teams played to decide who will meet Team Davanger in the final. Team Kägi Fret won 7-6. In the last end danish skip Stephanie Risdal maybe had the chance of a split to get 3 ponits and an extra end. She tried and came pretty close to what might have been an impossible shot.

Melanie Barbezat and Team Kägi Fret won a spot in the final against Team Davanger. This will be the second year in a row in the final for Janine Wyss and Briar Hürlimann.

Late night action!
The first day of GDJO 2011 came to an end after the late night match-ups starting at 21:30 and finishing 20 minutes to midnight. Both Boys Groups were in action, with the Russians bye in the 5-team Group A. In that group Team Nørgaard beat Silkeborg by 11-2. This was Silkeborg's first game this weekend as they were bye in the first Group A round. The young team are making their first appearance at GDJO. Silkeborg is in Jutland, the large danish penisula to the west. Silkeborg Curling Club is a relatively new club founded in 2007. Team St. Gallen skipped by Meico Oehninger beat Austria 15-2, gaining their first victory this weekend.
In Group B Team Thune again lost a very close game. Leading by 1 point in the last end, but without the hammer, he almost made a double-take-out that would have at least forced an extra end. However the second swedish rock was not pushed quite far enough and skip Rasmus Wranå snatched 2 points with a draw to the 4-foot, and cashed in his second victory today. Team Gstaad won their first victory by beating NL Juniors 14-2.

Second Round!
Both Team Risdal and Team Trulsen had suffered defeats in the first round, in two matches where they never really got started. In this second round one of them would inevitably get their first win as they were head to head on Sheet 3. It was Team Risdal who were able to put the morning misery behind them and secure a comfortable win 12-1 over the Norwegians. The other norwegian team skipped by Kristine Davanger continued their winning streak by beating Team Clemmensen 18-0. Joining them at the top of the leaderboard is Team Kägi Fret as they overcame Team Rilea by 10-3.
In the Boy's Event the teams in Boys Group B played their first round. In the swedish-swiss encounter between Team Wranå and Team Gstaad the Swedes came out victorious by stealing 3 times in 7 ends. The matchup ended 6-2. On Sheet 1 NL Juniors did just enough to get a 6-5 win. They stole a single point in the last end as the last draw by Tobias Thune came up just short of the 8 foot circle, a few inches shorter than the game-winning Dutch rock. Team Thune was leading by 4-0 after just 2 ends, but the Danes only scored a single point in the last 6 ends, and suffered a defeat in this hard fought game.
